Mechanical Lab Supervisor (Houston, TX) – 1318

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Quality Control Manager, the Mechanical Lab Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of mechanical test lab in accordance with customer, industry and regulatory requirements and specifications. The Mechanical Lab Supervisor trains personnel and ensures consistency with industry and internal best practices. The Mechanical Lab Supervisor is also responsible for overseeing the Brinell heat treat qualification, QC Forging qualification, and initial material verification.

Responsible for supervising and training QC personnel, workload schedule, and Lean/5S implementation.


Responsibilities, Duties, & Accountabilities:

  • Developing, qualifying, and approving procedures; establishing and approving techniques; interpreting codes, standards, specifications, and procedures; and designating the particular methods, techniques and procedures to be used.
  • Maintain ISO 17025 certification for tensile, Rockwell hardness, Charpy impact, and CTOD testing.
  • Monitor and report material first pass yield for management. Provide data analysis on selected grades and parts for Engineering.
  • Schedule work flow through QC Forge, QC Rough Out, and Mechanical Lab per internal scheduling system.
  • Track key performance indicators in the Mechanical Lab, QC Forge, and QC Rough Out. Identify deficiencies and work with personnel to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain training program with qualification and certification records of all personnel
  • Ensure all work order required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Interaction with vendors and subcontractors providing testing support to Company, tracking costs and lead times
  • Increase area capabilities and capacities in an economical manner
  • Implement Lean / 5S in QC areas, while equipping and involving personnel during projects.
  • Initiate project to identify, categorize, and store 77,000 forged test bars
  • Ensure calibration of all equipment with areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare reports and other work documents in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Understands and utilizes safe work practices, ensuring strict adherence to industrial safety and health guidelines.
  • Review routings with Manufacturing Engineering, taking into consideration shop processes to optimize routing.
  • Ability to read and interpret part and drawings



Academic/Education Qualifications Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Metallurgy, Material Science, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Three years’ experience within a mechanical test lab


  • Six years’ experience within a mechanical test lab in a management capacity

  • Three years’ experience within a mechanical test lab
